Ein spätes frohes Neues Jahr / A late Happy New Year!

Wow, fast zwei Monate lang nicht geblogged! Okay, auch aus gutem Grund, ich war mit Einigem beschäftigt. Und ich hoffe, es bleibt auch so, dass ich mit einigem beschäftigt bin. Oder ich beschäftige mich im Zweifelsfalle mit einigem.

Ich hoffe, alle von meinen lieben Besuchern hatten schöne Feiertage und einen guten Start ins Neue Jahr.

Die Zeichnung ist eine offizielle Dankeschönzeichnung an die Firma Rotring, die mir bei einem kleinen Problem mit einem Minenbleistift super geholfen haben! deshalb kann ich Rotring echt empfehlen. Stabile Produkte und sehr freundlicher Service. Und ich werde nicht für diese Werbung bezahlt. Bin da eher Überzeugungstäterin :D Ausserdem kann man an der Zeichnung wunderbar erkennen, wann ich damit angefangen habe. XD

Wow, almost two months since my last blog post! Okay, for a good reason. I had a lot of things to do. And I hope it stays this way. Or well, I'll give myself tasks to stay busy.

I hope everyone of my dear visitor had nice Holidays and a good start into the New Year!

This drawing is an offical Thank-You-Drawing to the company Rotring, who helped me amazingly with a small problem I had with a mechanical pencil. And that's why I can recommend Rotring whole heartly! They have stabile products and a very friendly customer service! And now, I am not paid for this advertisement. I am just an offender by conviction. :D And you can perfectly see when I started with the drawing XD

Beutelwolf - Testzeichnung / Thylacine - Test Drawing

Ich stelle im Moment verstärkt von traditionellen Medien auf Digital um. Und die Beutelwolfzeichnung war ein Test. Heute wollte ich eigentlich dran weiterarbeiten. Aber ich habe einen Blick drauf geworfen und sie für fertig erklärt. Das erschien mir vernünftiger, als wenn ich da irgendwas dran unnötigerweise was rumgefrickelt hätte.

I am in the process of changing a bit more from traditional media to digital, at the moment. And this Thylacine drawing was a test. Today I wanted to work on the drawing. But I had a look on the drawing and declared it for finished. To me it was wiser, instead that I would have messed it up.

Spielemesse Essen / Games Fair Essen

Wie schon gesagt, ist nach der Buchmesse Frankfurt vor der Spielemesse in Essen. Knapp sogar eine Woche danach. Und ich war noch etwas gerädert nach der Buchmesse. Okay, nach der Spielemesse war ich etwas mehr gerädert. Aber es hat sehr viel Spass gemacht. Ich lernte nette Leute kennen and sprach mit netten Leuten. Mit Illustratorenkollegen, sowie regulären Besuchern. Dieses Jahr hatte ich etwas das Gefühl, dass nicht soviele Besucher im Bereich Rollenspiel, Comic und Larp waren. Wie fandet ihr es?

As said, after Bookfair Frankfurt is prior to Games Fair in Essen. Just a week after even. And I was still a bit  tired from the Bookfair. Okay, after the Games Fair I was a bit more tired. But it was great fun. I met great people and I talked to nice people. Illustration colleagues and regular visitors. This year I had a bit the impression that there weren't this much visitor for the roleplaying, comic and Larp-parts of the fair. What was your impression?

Mörsermagazin. Er hat eine coole Comicserie mit
Setting im alten Japan, das aber von Robotern bevölkert ist.

Senckenberg Museum - Skizzen / Senckenberg Museum - Sketches

Zuerst einmal: Nach der Buchmesse ist vor der Spielemesse/Comicaction! Wer mich auf der Comicaction gerne kennenlernen möchte ist herzlich eingeladen. Ich bin auf der Zeichnerallee in der Comicsparte.

Und nun zu weiteren Skizzen aus dem Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt. Für alle die an Naturkunde, Dinos  und der Grube Messel interessiert sind, ich kann einen Besuch sehr empfehlen. Das Museum ist auch nicht weit weg von Frankfurt Messe. Am Samstag habe ich mich entschieden lieber ins Museum zu gehen und dort zu zeichnen anstatt mich durch die Messe zu quälen. Zumal beruflich nichtsmehr zu reissen war. Kaum ein Fachbesucher bleibt auf der Messe am Wochenende, wenn es nicht unbedingt sein muss. Deshalb lieber Skizzieren im Museum. Und ich hatte auch Begegnungen mit alten Bekannten aus meiner Lost Zoo Serie.

And now on to further sketches from the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt. For all, who are interested in Nature, dinosaurs and the Messel Pit, it is really worth a visit. The museum is also not far from the Fair in Frankfurt. On saturday, I decided to go to the museum to draw there instead of forcing myself through the Fair. Especially as you won't pull anything job related on the Fair anymore. Trade visitor won't stay on the Fair at the weekend if they do not have to. So better I go sketching in the museum. And I had also encounters with old friends from my Lost Zoo Series.

Beutelwolf - Ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass das Exemplar nicht
ausgewachsen war. Es wirkte recht klein. Und eben schmal.

Thylacine - I could imagine that this specimen wasn't fully
grown. It looked rather small. And yeah, slender.

Karolinasittich - Ich habe ihn noch nicht für meine Serie vorgestellt,
aber auch das ist eine ausgestorbene Tierart. Der einzige Papagei
Nordamerikas.

Carolina Parakeet - I haven't shown it yet for my series, but this is
an extinct species, too. The only parakeet species of North America

Pterodactylflügel und Dodofuss.

Dieser Fund begeisterte mich. Dies sind Gipsabdrücke von einem
Dodokopf und -Fuss. Es gibt keine ausgestopften Dodos mehr.
Die letzten wurden aufgrund von Mottenbefall im 18. Jahrhundert
vernichtet. Aber wenigstens war man umsichtig genug davor
Kopf und Fuss abzuschneiden und Gipsabdrücke anzufertigen.

This finding really amazed me. These are plaster casts of the head
and the foot of a dodo. There are no taxidermied dodos anymore.
The last ones where thrown away in the 18th century because of
infection with moths. But the curators were wise enough to
let cut of the head and the foot to make plaster casts.

Elefantenfussmoa - Es gab auch noch das
Skelett von einem Riesenmoa und einem Zwergmoa.
Aber ich habe mich erstmal auf den Elefantenfussmoa
beschränkt. Insgesamt gab es 11 Moaarten. Alle
sind höchstwahrscheinlich ausgestorben.

Elephant Foot Moa - There were also sceletons of a
Giant Moa and a Dwarf Moa. But I concentrated on the
Elephant Foot Moa. Overall there were 11 moa species.
All are most likely extinct.

Quagga - Ein sehr schönes Quaggapräparat.

Einst waren wir Legion - Weißfußkaninchenratte / Once we were legion - White-Footed Rabbit Rat

Die Weißfußkaninchenratte war früher in Australien so häufig, dass sie als Ernteschädling galt. Aber wie viele andere Beuteltierarten ist auch sie ausgestorben. Vielleicht kann man sie als Wandertaube unter den Beuteltieren sehen.

The white-footed rabbit rat was once extremly common in Australia. It was even considered a harvest pest. But like so many other marsupial species the rabbit rat went extinct. Maybe you can view it as the wandering pigeon among marsupials.
